High net worth individuals with assets of at least USD 1 million

Ownership of assets valued at least USD 1 million in the applicant's name
Minimum average personal income of USD 80.000/year for the last two years
Total investment in Thai government bonds OR direct investment in companies registered in Thailand OR Thai property valued at least USD 500.000
Health insurance with coverage of at least USD 50.000 OR receiving social benefits in Thailand OR depositing and maintaining a bank account of at least USD 100.000 in the applicant's name during the last 12 months

Wealthy Pensioners

Pensioners aged 50 and over who have an annual pension or a stable passive income

Minimum income or passive income* of USD 80.000/year at the time of application (earned income and salaries are NOT considered)
If the income or passive income is less than USD 80.000 but not less than USD 40.000, the applicant must make additional investments totaling USD 250.000 in Thai government bonds OR direct investment in Thai registered companies OR Thai property
Health insurance with coverage of at least USD 50.000 OR current receipt of social benefits in Thailand OR deposit and maintenance of a bank account of at least USD 100.000 in the applicant's name for at least 12 months
Income or passive income includes, but is not limited to, pension, rental, capital gains, dividend and interest payments

Work from Thailand Professionals

Teleworkers working for established companies abroad

Average minimum personal income of USD 80.000/year in the last two years
If the average personal income is less than USD 80.000 but not less than USD 40.000, the applicant must provide additional documents as proof of qualification, such as a certificate for a master's degree or higher
Employment contract with a listed public company or a private company that has been operating for at least 3 years and has achieved a total turnover of at least USD 3 million in the last 150 years
At least 5 years of professional experience within the last 10 years in a field relevant to the current job or field of expertise
Health insurance with a coverage amount of at least USD 50.000 OR current receipt of social benefits in Thailand OR deposit and maintenance of a bank account of at least USD 100.000 in the name of the LTR visa applicant for at least 12 months

Highly skilled professionals

Professionals or experts in specific industries working for companies, universities, research centers or specialized training institutions in Thailand or Thai government agencies

Average minimum income of USD 80.000/year in the last two years
Applicants working for Thai government agencies are exempt from the minimum income requirements for this visa type
If the average personal income is less than USD 80.000 but not less than USD 40.000, the applicant must provide additional documents as proof of qualification, i.e. a certificate of a master's degree or higher in science and technology
Contractual employment in a Thai or foreign company whose activities fall within the scope of the Target industries OR the applicant must provide evidence of expertise in the BOI specified areas
At least five years of professional experience within the last ten years in specific target industries. Applicants with a PhD or higher degree, as well as applicants working for Thai government agencies, including public universities, research institutes, and specialized training institutes, are exempt from this requirement.
Insured by a Health insurance with coverage of at least USD 50.000 OR currently receive social benefits in Thailand OR deposit at least USD 100.000 into a bank account in the name of the LTR visa applicant and hold it for at least 12 months

Spouses and dependents

Spouses and children under 20 years of age of LTR visa holders (maximum 4 dependents per LTR visa holder)

Health insurance with a coverage amount of at least USD 50.000 OR current receipt of social security benefits in Thailand OR deposit and retention of at least USD 25.000 per dependent in a bank account in the name of the applicant or dependent for at least 12 months.
Dependents must be the legal spouse or children of an LTR visa holder. (Note that same-sex marriages and partnerships are currently not legally recognized in the Kingdom of Thailand.)
Children are granted a dependent LTR visa up to the age of 20

LTR visa application process

The LTR visa is aimed at "high-potential" foreign nationals seeking long-term residence in Thailand. These include wealthy global citizens, retirees, and highly skilled professionals. Spouses and children of LTR visa holders are also eligible.

Step 1 – Submitting your application
The applicant creates an LTR application account and submits the application

Step 2 – Status: Pending
The official checks the LTR application (3 working days) / (May take longer if additional
Documents are requested)

Step 3 – Status: Application registered
After the review process, the application is registered ex officio.

Step 4 – Status: Review by government authorities
Application will be examined by the competent authorities (20 working days) / (May take longer if additional documents are required)

Step 5 – Status: Qualifications approved
The result of the qualification note will be communicated

Step 6 – Status: Review of documents for issuing visa/WP
The applicant updates the information and uploads additional documents (processing time depends on how long the applicants need to prepare the information/documents)

Step 7 – Status: IMM/DOE Pre-Approved Visa/WP Issue
Pre-approval procedure by the immigration authorities (Processing time depends on the completeness of the updated information/uploaded documents in step 6)

Step 8 – Status: Visa/WP issuance pre-approval
Appointment for the issuance of the LTR visa (if the applicant is in Thailand)

Step 9 – Status: Appointment
Issuance of an LTR visa at the One-Stop Service Center for Visas and Work Permits of the Ministry of Labor

Step 10 – Status: Completed
